A lens into the entropy of being

Vancouver, Canada. Still rainy. We have some sunny days, so getting better.
Working remotely as a senior software engineer at Google, working on efficient training of open-source LLMs on Google Cloud. Currently experimenting with transitioning from being deep in the weeds of performance optimization and making things faster, to focusing on "what" to build for Google Cloud Vertex AI. Unfortunately, with progress in AI coding, it's not as fun as it used to be to optimize code, since the returns are diminishing and the work is more about supervision than actual discovery and debugging. But I'm trying to find ways to make it fun again, and to stay close to the code as much as possible.
Attending Google Cloud Next as staff.
Currently reading Salt Fat Acid Heat by Samin Nosrat — who is also Persian. These are all attempts to remove cognitive load from cooking. I want to cook intuitively, with zero thinking and zero memorization. Pure instinct. I’m currently 0% of the way there. Similar to where I am with anything art. Even my approach to photography is analytical at the moment, which bothers me.
Focusing on reducing fat without losing muscle. Recent travels took a toll and I’ve gained weight. Getting back on track.
Playing indoor soccer. Skiing when I can. My partner and I have been traveling so much recently. I’m gonna stick around in Vancouver for a while and enjoy it; it’s the best place to be in the summers: breweries, hiking, beaches, swimming at lakes, and most importantly, camping.
This is a now page. It's a snapshot of what I'm focused on right now. I update it monthly or when life shifts.
